About Prairie Hill

By way of introduction, I thought it might be helpful to provide some information about this congregation and the community in which it is located. This first posting is a way to get to know Prairie Hill.

Prairie Hill is one of Texas' "Vanished Communities," located about 7 miles north of the city of Brenham, Texas. At one time, the community was home to the church, a general store, a doctor, a school, and a dance hall. As transportation became more accessible and quicker, the community increasing became a part of Brenham.

While much of what was once the Prairie Hill community is no longer here (e.g., the school and general store), a community is still present here. Saint John Lutheran Church (and the cemetery) is still located in Prairie Hill. The community is also home to Prairie Hill Books, an extension club, a 4-h Chapter, and the Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Department (and many other small gatherings of friends).

One of the challenges of life in Prairie Hill is learning to live somewhere between what we once were, and what we could become; between being a part of Brenham, and being our own community. That tension between the past and future, between town and country, is part of what makes life out here in Prairie Hill both frustrating and rewarding.

This is my first time to "Blog" and wanted to be the first one to leave a comment on your Blog.

It is great to have you as Pastor at Prairie Hill and pray you and your wife find much happiness and personal satisfaction in serving as Pastor of your first congreation.

I look forward to working with you in keeping our Church Web Site current and interesting.

I can't think of better spot to begin my ministry, and am very happy that I have been brought to prairie hill.
