Draft Sexuality Statement

The ELCA has released the draft of a new statement on sexuality (it can be downloaded here). From what I understand, no decisions are made in this statement about the ordaination of openly gay and lesbian persons in committed relationships - rather the document tries to establish a firm foundation of common ground in our language about sexuality and love. (you can also always check and see what the secular press is saying online about the ELCA)

But that's all I know about it. I haven't read it yet. I've downloaded it, so I have it for when I am ready to read it. But right now, I have the much more important work of Holy Week to attend to. Once I am through Easter, I will give a once over - until then, I am just too focused on other things; like the death and resurrection of our Lord.

Me too. I wish they had released it a month earlier, giving folks more time prior to synod assembly season to read it. But you know, no matter when they release such a document there will be complaints.

I scrolled through it and nothing much jumped out at me, though I haven't given it the attention it deserves. Like you, I'll get to it after Easter.

Blessings in your Holy Week preparations!

I downloaded it from your link. Skimmed a bit and I'll read more this weekend. Not being Lutheran, perhaps I have no business commenting but I'm afraid this is going to be another one of those carefully worded attempts at compromise which pleases no one.

I think the timing of this release is pretty crappy. Why couldn't the ELCA wait a couple more weeks (after Easter). Like you said, there are more important things to do than to start arguing/debating about sexuality when we should be focusing on the most holy week of the year. This is just more evidence that the ELCA has their priorities messed up.

Sorry about the rant...have a very HAPPY EASTER!

It's coming up on holy week, I've been sick, and I haven't read it yet either. But there's something in the local paper about it today, so I guess I'll have to check it out.

I have notread it yet either. I was amazed at how long it took to print this thing (64 pages).

As far as timing...ELW'stiming was off, the 2 votes concerning sexuality at the last church-wide assembly was premature, so why shouldthis one be any different?

@ Chris - Thanks - you as well. First Holy Week in the parish as I recall, as part of your internship? Enjoy it.

@ Art - the LPs (Lutheran Police) may come after you. But you are, of course, correct. Both the right and left (or however you want to term the two "sides") on this issue will be peeved because it didn't go far enough one way or the other.

@ Eric - Yes, the timing stinks. But a very happy Easter to you as well.
